As is, it’s still pretty tasty, though the big soggy flaw is kind of hard to ignore. If the fries were just a little less soggy, we think this would be a homerun. The Devour Loaded Nacho Fries with Chorizo are a batch of overly soggy fries slathered in some of the best toppings we’ve had on a frozen dinner. Do you see what we mean? This thing is loaded up with calories and sodium, making it more of a once-in-a-while treat than a regular meal. This meal contains 510 calories (330 from fat) and 1,290 mg of sodium. We already mentioned that this is no diet food, and we weren’t just trying to be cute. We think these fries do pretty alright for themselves, minus that sog factor. Of course, the fries still taste pretty decent for the most part, though every once in a while there’s a bite where some amazing flavor comes through - perhaps places where the seasoning ends up being concentrated. We’re guessing you’d want to remove the contents of the meal from the plastic dish before you attempted anything like that. We’d like to try to cook this meal in the oven, as that might help mitigate some of that a bit, though we should point out that this comes without oven instructions. And this isn’t a regular level of fries-dunked-in-queso soggy, this is an off-putting sog factor that really brings down the overall quality of the meal. We almost wish we had some corn chips to dip in this stuff!Īll of that said, this meal has one major flaw: these fries are really soggy. This is a gooey mix that has just a little bit of stretchiness to it, and it’s absolutely wonderful. In fact, we don’t think we’ve had a chorizo this good since the last time we ordered chorizo queso at our local Mexican restaurant (here come those tears again!)Īnd speaking of queso, the fries here are soaked in a queso sauce that’s laced with cheddar cheese. This might very well be the best chorizo we’ve had in a frozen meal. The flavor is potent, the texture is just a little bit gravelly though still satisfying, and there’s a pretty decent spice level here. The chorizo comes in big chunks - almost meatballs - and it is some intense chorizo. It has a restaurant-food smell to it, and since none of our staffers has actually sat in a restaurant for more than a year (due to COVID-19), this nearly brought us to tears. This comes out of the microwave smelling like it fell from heaven. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the back of the box, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)įirst off, let’s just talk about the smell for a moment. To cook this up, simply pop it into the microwave for two minutes and 15 seconds, give it a quick stir, and pop it back in for another two minutes. “Show your mouth a good time,” says the back of the box, and we very much intend to do that today! Neither of those things should come as a surprise to anyone who’s had a Devour meal. You see, this is a guilty-pleasure snack that’s loaded up with cheese, and it’s definitely not made for calorie-counters. So when we discovered the Devour Loaded Nacho Fries with Chorizo at our local grocery store, the only real surprise was that we’d not heard of it before then. Ah, we were so much younger then! Now, having reviewed most of what Devour has put out in the last four years, we pretty much know what to expect from the brand: high-quality meals that aren’t exactly made for dieters. We’ve been fans of the Devour brand of frozen meals ever since we tried their Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese.
